This is the first instalment in our Meet the Locals Q&A series – introducing you to some of the faces behind Forest Hill Fashion Week
Sara Atteby, London Photographer
Q: What are the three words that you’d use to capture the creative spirit of South East London?
Diverse, Raw & Talented.
Q: How heavily influenced/inspired are you by the community you live in?
People are why I’m a photographer, so naturally I am heavily influenced by the different individuals I see and meet. I love to hear and sometimes imagine their stories and find the collective history in this small section of our planet to be fascinating.
Q: What’s your best piece of style advice?
Don’t try to be cool. Be yourself in that you are always honest to yourself and surprisingly you will notice that people find you cooler than when you were trying to be cool.
Q: Who or what would be your dream designer, craftsperson or fashion label to open up a boutique store on one of our local high streets?
I would love to see a boutique that stocked all my favourite local designers and crafts people, vintage items, jewellery designers and artists. From quality affordable items to one off designer pieces.
Q: Which events are you looking forward to most as part of FHFW?
It think the catwalk show will be amazing. There are so many different, talented designers taking part and I am looking forward to seeing how the equally talented FHFW team will put it all together.
Q: What inspired you to pursue the career or field that you’re in?
I was and am still fascinated by the power of an image. A photograph can tell so many truths and at the same time so many lies – it is mysterious and also blatant and direct. Whatever the reality, every image tells a story and that’s what I love to do, I love to tell stories with pictures.
Q: What’s your hidden talent or skill?
I speak German and French – together with my husband we speak 5 languages fluently (and a couple more with less fluency).
Q: What would be your soundtrack to Forest Hill Fashion Week?
I think Laura Mvula is a great representative for conscious, modern, intelligent & creative people, so would be a good soundtrack for FHFW.
Q: What’s your favourite item in your wardrobe and why?
A beautiful and colourful summer dress that my husband bought me while in Ghana.
Q: Who’s your ‘one to watch’?
I really like Katherine Harrison. Her ideas are simple but clever and always well crafted.
